Town Continues with Improvements to Park
Thanks to a county grant, our Highway Crew has been working recently to add to our year-round trail system through the woods at Brookhaven Park this fall. So far the trail is just under a half mile, featuring three short loops of wide clearing and stone dust surface. The park is at 333 Alpine Meadows Rd. in Porter Corners, just across the street from the award-winning Brookhaven Golf Course. The Town received grants for the past three years from the Saratoga County Trails Grant Program.
“It is our intention to fill this park with an entire system of summer trails through this beautiful open space,” said Town Supervisor Kevin Veitch. “We are thankful to our friends at the County for helping us to continually expand.”
Residents already enjoy 20 kilometers of cross-country ski and snowshoeing trails each winter at Brookhaven Winter Park. The trails are immaculately maintained and groomed throughout the winter by a team of resident volunteers led by our Recreation Department. But in the summer, these trails are not trimmed for hiking, making their use truly only for those who enjoy the “back country.”
The Town is adding to this park bit by bit Veitch said, and has plans to build permanent restrooms and make improvements to the 3,300 square foot pavilion on the premises. In 2022, the Town added a state-of-the-art, 5,184 square foot playground, which was one of the first playgrounds made from recycled ocean waste in the country. The pavilion is available for rental for parties. The View Restaurant at Brookhaven Golf Course, across the street, is available to cater at the pavilion.
Many thanks to our Highway crew for their fine work on the trail this fall!
Other Town Parks feature walking trails. Middle Grove Park has a half-mile loop that circles its perimeter that is accessible in summer and Brigham Rd. Park has a three-quarter mile trail through the woods that is maintained all year.
